Historical Maps (Tel Aviv)

Hi, and thanks in advance for any help.

I am doing a project on the evolution of Tel Aviv, and I am having trouble finding Any maps which predate 1983 of the city. Tel Aviv is a relatively modern city (founded 1909) but I hope that by contrasting the early maps I hope to analyze the growth of the city.

I have tried both googling and Google Earthing and have come up short.

Help!

Hi Daniel-

Print to the rescue! :-)

First of all, I've forwarded your question on to our maps expert. But in the mean time, do a keyword search in the library catalog for "israel and maps":

catalog keyword "israel and maps"

And it looks to me like some of these might have what you need- in particular the Routledge Atlas of Jewish History or Israel, The Historical Atlas might be good bets.

Note that there is actually an atlas of Tel Aviv in the catalog- in Hebrew!- listed at the Siegel library. If you are unfamiliar with that collection, there is an explanation on our FAQ section here:

Siegel library FAQ

I hope this gets you started, and perhaps our map expert will chime in as well.
