CLASSIFIED ADS RULES
Date: November 17, 2005 11:52AM

To keep things running smoothly, please do the following when you post in the Classified Ads forum. Everyone will appreciate it.

If possible, please preface your subject with one of the following:
FS - "For sale"
FA - "For auction"
WTB - "Want to buy"
FT - "For trade"

The subject should also include the name of the thing you're trying to buy/sell/trade. If your ad is for multiple items, it's good to list a few of them. People will be more likely to click on your ad if they know what to expect.

For example, a good subject might read:
WTB - TI-89 Calculator

or:
FS: Futon, bookshelf, blender, and more

Try to avoid subjects like:
BIG SALE! LOTS OF CHEAP STUFF!

It is suggested that you do not post anonymously, so people can contact you if they're interested. If you do post anonymously, be sure to include your email address in your post so people can contact you.

People will ask for photos of your items. You can easily include images in your posts - use the "Picture" button to do so. You'll need to put your photos online first. filer.case.edu is recommended; imageshack.us works as well.

Please don't make multiple threads advertising the same item. If it's been a while and no one has responded, you can "bump" your thread by adding a post to it stating that the item(s) are still available (or wanted). If you do this several times over the course of a week or two, and you don't get a response, it likely means that no one is interested. Try another venue for your ad.

Please don't post several responses in a row. If you don't get a response within a few days after responding to a classified ad, consider emailing the person who posted the ad. But, don't harass them. If after several attempts you do not get a response, it may mean the ad has already been answered.

After posting a classified ad, once you've sold (or obtained) your item, please post in your thread to say so. This will alert people not to inquire further.
