Net Neutrality.... http://ipower.ning.com/netneutrality2

...Which way will the world turn? Open and free, where everyone is a hacker and we enjoy our communist utopia? (HA) Or militaristic police state, where every device we have can be used against us by the Government or the Corporation, is locked down and we are mere pawns to spend our money. These are extremes...but where does the world go?

On a recent news, device related note...

So I watched the live blogging from Apples WWDC. And I admit, I was impressed. For a premium (but reasonable) amount of money, the iPhone 2.0 3G is more powerful than Jesus.

They even opened it ...sorta, to developers. True, it does cost 100$ to get the SDK, and you have certain constraints on the specifics of your code (its method of distribution, the way you daemonize it), but on the whole, its rather fair and complete. You can even give your apps away, and while they DRM the binaries, that is more for safety than anything. (Probably even GPL'd code, as long as there is a "first run" agreement pointing to the source code.) They even offer their servers to make a push based system of events, like IM so you don't have to daemonize programs, such as IM clients up. Thats amazingly efficient.

It still gives them control. And as I see it, there is really no competition yet to the iPhone. No one delivers a service as fair, or as well featured. But there is always the possibility of control, if not for Apple then for dear old uncle Sam.

Same as Microsoft with the "Live" gaming system, to make Vista DRMed locked down like the xbox360. Apple is nowhere near as malicious as Microsoft, but it still scares me. Take a look at this article, about the future of our locked down, appliance world..

Google is amazing, they have great services...and they also can store more information about you than God. (Can God store 1.0 × 10^100 bytes like our friends at Googol?) I fear what they can do, and no matter how great their services, I never turn everything over to them.

I use Windows XP...It works, is decent vs its competitors and gets the job done. Being closed source, there could be quite a few back doors into every XP machine I run given to absolutely anyone. I find that slightly disturbing.

Am I just being paranoid?

I'm waiting for an Android phone to come out later this year. I try not to touch anything Apple with less than a ten foot pole wink smiley
